Working with orma

Totals and calculations

Ask what a company has cost you, or how many payments went to it. orma adds it up from your documents with tools, so no AI model writes the number, and shows every payment it counted and what it left out.

a total: each payment, the total per currency, and what was not counted

How to use it

  • Ask in the bar: “How much have we paid Figma this year?” or “How many payments went to Acme in August?”
  • Leave out the company to add up everything you paid in a period: “What did I pay last month?”
  • Follow up to change one thing: “and in July?” or “what about the average?” keeps the company. Average, smallest and largest work too.

What an answer shows

  • Each payment it counted, as orma read it from the document, with its amount. The documents are listed as sources.
  • A total per currency, like 2,340.00 USD. Currencies are never added together or converted.
  • Paid and received apart. They are never netted.
  • Not counted, with the reason: refunds and credits (listed, not subtracted), money you received when you asked what you paid, documents that don’t say who paid whom, documents with several totals, and amounts with no clear currency.
  • Bills and receipts counted once. A receipt for a bill already counted is listed under Not counted.
  • Possible duplicates. If equal amounts sit a few days apart, the answer says how many such pairs it found, so you can check them.
  • Short totals, flagged. If some documents are not read yet: “Not every document is read yet, so this may be short.”

Periods

Name a period (“this year”, “last month”, “in August”, “Q2 2026”) and the total covers only that. If orma can’t read the period, it asks which one you mean. If you name no period, it counts every payment it has read.

Other calculations

A difference, a share or a percentage is worked out by a calculator, and the sum is shown under the answer:

Calculated: 1,450.00 USD − 1,200.00 USD = 250.00 USD

Amounts in different currencies are not calculated. The answer says so instead of giving a number.

Good to know

  • Which dollar? A bare $ or ¥ is not added, because orma can’t tell which currency it is. Open the document, and under What orma read here pick the currency and tap Confirm.
  • Meetings count too. “How many times did I meet Liz this year?” counts the meetings on your calendar with her. It needs her email address on file.
  • Statements are left out of an all-company total, because their charges are already in the receipts. Ask about the company that issued one and it counts.

Limits

  • Totals read your documents, such as receipts, invoices and statements. Notes and emails are not counted.
  • A total covers only what orma has read. A payment with no document in orma is not in it.
  • At most 2,000 amounts are read for one answer. Above that, the answer says so.
  • No currency conversion.
