Notes
Press ⌥ Space, type /note and write. orma files the note under today in your Library and saves as you type.
Writing a note
Three keys connect a note to the rest of orma:
| Type | To |
|---|---|
@ and a name |
Mention someone orma knows or a Google contact. Create “…” adds a new person when nobody matches. |
/ and a word |
Link a note, read, find, document, or a Research or Activity digest. |
[] and a space |
Turn the line into a task. [x] and a space makes it already done. |
The toolbar has bold, italic, underline, three heading levels, links, lists, images and line spacing. Markdown shortcuts work as you type: # , - , 1. , > . Paste or drag an image in. The toolbar shows Last saved at and the time.
What happens next
- A mention puts the note on that person’s page under History, and what you wrote feeds their summary.
- A
/link shows at the foot of the note under You linked, and on the other item under Linked from. See Memory. - A task line lands in Tasks under To Do, linked to the note. Edit the line and the task follows. Tick it in Tasks or in the note’s reading view. Saving again never makes a second task.
Voice
- Voice in the toolbar records into the note you are writing. What you say lands as text.
- ⌥ ⇧ Space anywhere talks to orma. It keeps your words as a note, titled for you, and makes any tasks or events you asked for. A plain list of to-dos becomes tasks with no note. See Your sidekick.
- In a meeting’s own note, what you type while it records goes into the meeting’s summary.
What orma adds
In the background, orma reads each note and adds:
| Tags | Notes of about 200 characters or more. |
| A summary | Notes of about 200 words or more. A shorter note is its own summary. |
| A suggested title | Untitled notes over 500 characters. It waits under AI Suggestions until you accept it. |
| A suggested folder | Waits for you to accept it. |
Voice notes get their title automatically. Meeting notes get the meeting’s own summary instead. Small edits do not replace a summary.
Good to know
- Library lists notes by day and filters by type and folder.
- Export to Markdown (Settings › Privacy & Data › Export your data) writes every note to a Markdown file. Documents, tasks, email and audio are not in the export.
Limits
/matches whole words in titles and text./revdoes not find “review”.- Notes live in orma’s database, not as plain files. Export when you want files.
- Tags, summaries and titles come from AI models in the cloud, so the note’s text is sent there. See What leaves your Mac.
