Bringing things in

Bring in what you already have, once, so orma can answer from it on day one. Open Connectors and pick a source under Grows with.

the one-time imports in Connectors, in the app’s order

Everything you import is read and connected to the people and topics in it, and orma answers from it like anything else. See Memory.

Folders on this Mac

Open Folders on this Mac, or press ⌘ K in the app and type /import folder. Then Select a folder. Add more with Add another folder.

  • orma looks for PDFs, Word files (.docx) and Markdown, shows what it found, and you choose what comes in.
  • Receipts, statements and other records are grouped on their own and left unselected. Include them if you want to ask what you paid later.
  • Each file arrives as a document, as if you had dragged it in. orma keeps its own copy of each PDF, and Free up space from imported PDFs can then move the originals to the Trash.

A file orma already has is skipped. An import that stops part way carries on the next time you open orma. When the files are in, orma suggests questions to ask about them, and adds more as it finishes reading.

Meeting Notes (Granola)

beta Needs Granola on this Mac, signed in. Pick meetings, or Import All.

Each meeting arrives as a note in a Granola folder, with who was there. Turn on Include transcripts to bring the transcripts too. Meetings you already imported are marked Imported.

Apple Notes

Search your notes and pick the ones you want, or select all. They arrive as orma notes you can edit, with their formatting and dates, in one folder called Apple Notes.

The first time, macOS asks whether orma may use Notes. If you said no, allow orma under System Settings › Privacy & Security › Automation. Notes you already imported cannot be picked again.

Google Docs

Connect & Import opens your browser: sign in with Google and pick documents there. orma sees only the documents you pick.

Each one arrives as a note. A document you already imported is skipped.

Limits

  • One folder import holds up to 2,500 pages on Free and 5,000 on Super. orma counts before it starts, and asks you to deselect some if it is over.
  • orma cannot read a PDF over 100 pages.
  • A folder import leaves out images and text files. Drag those in instead.
  • Reading takes a while in the background. Until a document has been read, answers about it may be incomplete.
